Fired

Small snail sculpture (2½″ × 3¼″ × ⅞″). Mid-fire white, brown and speckled clay, slip, glazes and steel wire. Wheel thrown and sculpted.

The base of this piece was accidentally broken a number of times, each time a new base had to be made. Unlike the first iterations of the base, the current base was carved out of a solid piece of leather-hard clay.

One of the experiments was to attach two pieces of metal wires before firing. This did not give a satisfactory result: The wires became brittle and just fell off.
